Frequently Asked Questions

Cashmere is a type of wool that is made from the hair of a certain type of goat native to the Gobi Desert and Central Asia. Long considered to be one of the softest and most luxurious types of wool in existence, cashmere is highly prized as a material for sweaters, scarves, and other light cold-weather gear. While cashmere is not as insulative as other types of wool, it is much softer and finer, which makes it possible to weave cashmere into highly dense but thin fabric. This type of wool will not insulate you as well as traditional sheep wool, but it is soft enough to wear directly next to the skin, which is advantageous for applications like underwear and undershirts.
Wool comes from sheep and is more durable and insulating, while cashmere comes from cashmere goats and is softer, lighter, and more luxurious. Cashmere fibers are finer (14-19 microns) compared to wool (20-40 microns), making cashmere garments lighter yet equally warm. Cashmere is also rarer and more expensive due to limited production - each goat produces only about 200-300 grams of cashmere per year.
Yak fiber comes from the undercoat of yaks living in the Himalayan highlands. It is exceptionally warm, soft, and breathable. Yak fiber is warmer than merino wool, softer than cashmere, and naturally odor-resistant. It's also sustainable as yaks are naturally combed during their spring molting season, making it an eco-friendly choice for premium winter fabrics.
Alpaca fiber offers several unique benefits: it's hypoallergenic (contains no lanolin), warmer than sheep wool, incredibly soft, naturally water-resistant, and comes in over 22 natural colors. Suri alpaca, which we use in our premium fabrics, has an especially silky, lustrous quality that drapes beautifully and adds elegance to any garment.
For best results, dry clean cashmere, yak, and alpaca garments. If hand washing, use cool water and mild detergent, gently squeeze (never wring), and lay flat to dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Store folded (not hung) in a breathable bag with cedar blocks to prevent moths. Wool fabrics can generally tolerate gentle machine washing on wool settings.
Double-faced fabric is a premium textile with two distinct finished sides, allowing for reversible wear or sophisticated unlined garment construction. Our double-faced wool fabrics feature two layers bonded together, providing excellent warmth, structure, and a clean finish on both sides. This eliminates the need for lining, making garments lighter while maintaining elegance.
